Ten intrepid souls set off from Peter’s Yard on a very sunny, if chilly, Sunday morning.
Mike took us to Holyrood Park and, taking advantage of the Sunday exclusion of cars,
we rode down Duddingston Low Road and across Cavalry Park Drive to Duddingston house, where Mike explained a little of the history.
Gliding through Bingham, we reached Portobello beach and made steady Westward progress in pleasant sunshine. Picking up the shared footpath beside Seafield Road and then on to the nicely renovated path though Leith Links, we soon traversed the Shore and reached the lunch stop, Ocean Terminal.
It was too cold as soon as you stopped cycling, and even the most avid picnickers were to be found indoors as we chose lunch from the Mexican and Middle Eastern offerings on the 1st floor.
Whizzing round the Northern paths, we returned to the Meadows well before 3pm, with 6 of us disposed towards an end-of-ride coffee.
But one final challenge awaited these bold survivors: impossibly long queues in both Peter’s Yard and Starbucks! undeterred, we toured the surrounding area on foot until we found Olly Bongo in Teviot Place, where we celebrated our nice run in a pleasant café.
