25 January 2015: carrot cake and soup … and out towards Riccarton

DSC00868For reasons that don’t wholly compute I was at a carrot cake competition on the day before this ride.  Bringing three hundredweight of carrot cake was the work of a moment – and was very well received.  But I get ahead of myself.

Weather very pleasant.  Bit windy, perhaps, but kind nonetheless.  15/16 of us (the count was inaccurate, I hope and pray, or we had a high rate of attrition very early on) set off from Middle Meadow Walk across the Links and out through the Astley Ainsley to the back of Morningside.  A muddy section to the back of Craiglockhart took us to the canal, the Water of Leith and out towards Colinton.

DSC00886We paused at Spylaw Park for said carrot cake and, supplied by the kindly Ian,  some warming soup.  Very nice it was too.

Thence Currie-wards and across the Lanark Road and (up-down) to Napier Watt at Riccarton.  Food was consumed at the university cafe which is very good and extravagantly cheap.

Right across the campus to the (I think) Calder Road, canal and back towards town.  Formal ride end at the Leamington Lift Bridge, mainly as that marked our 15 miles.  Informal ride thereafter for coffee and more cake at Peter’s Yard.

My first EasyCycle ride and very enjoyable. Food was a – highly welcome! – feature, even without the final raid on Peter’s Yard, which I ducked. Thanks for the organisation and the company – look forward to next time!
