19th April 2014: anti-clockwise to Mortonhall

An absolute belter of a day – who would have thought the weather would be so kind to the EasyCyclists? Especially as we had three new people with us. Last time we had three new people it snowed

Alan Orr led eighteen of us from Middle Meadow Walk on a (slightly) hilly run out to Mortonhall. We headed south to the Grange, through the Astley Ainsley, around the back of Morningside and out to the Braidburn Park.

Through the park and southwesterly to Dreghorn along said burn, then down almost to the bypass and east through the Swanston/Caiyside communities. Across the busy Biggar Road and out to the lovely Morton Hall itself, and then an unexpected diversion through a turnip field; we ignored the correct, earlier path in a spirit of adventure. Oops.

A short, fast mile or so to the Stables Bar and lunch in the courtyard. Quite exciting that there were actual horses!

Well fed we took the very brief, but steepish, hill north to Stanedykehead and then a quick run back down to Kings Buildings. Almost done, we took the well-cycled route back through the Grange and Marchmont to return to MMW at 2.15 or so.

12-odd miles in t-shirts and shorts. In April. An excellent day out.

A wee map of our route:
